Evangel Children’s Home: “U-Turn” for a Stable Home [2011-2013]

GO BACK TO MAP
In 2011-2013, ZeShan Foundation supported the “U-Turn” for a Stable Home - Holistic Children’s Care and Family Support Service for Deprived Families Service of the Evangel Children’s Home, enabling the centre to expand its current all year round 14-hour daycare service to children from vulnerable families and to develop a parent support network.

In the first half of 2012, the project served 32 children from vulnerable families whom need immediate help to prevent or reduce domestic violence and offered assistance to their parents. Through training seminars, case work intervention and developmental program, the participants have significant improvements in academic results, self-confidence, interpersonal skills and also parenting skills. The increasing number of single-parent families, marriages between mainlanders and Hong Kongers (and the inevitable separation of the child from either parent), and families where grandparents have to take up the parenting role, has resulted in complicated family issues in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, parents of families that are mired in poverty can afford little time to tend to the needs of their children, as they often have to toil long working hours to make ends meet.

In addition to ZeShan’s support, the 3-year project has secured matching grant from the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged. It is hoped that more families with parenting pressure and financial constraints would receive service in the future.
